In a heart-wrenching incident from Tamil Nadu, a newlywed bride has allegedly died by suicide just weeks after a lavish wedding that reportedly cost ₹2.5 crore. The tragic turn came despite her family fulfilling extensive dowry demands, including gifting a luxury car worth ₹70 lakh.
According to reports, the woman, identified as Pooja, took her own life in Coimbatore amid mounting pressure and mental harassment linked to dowry expectations. Her family claims that despite fulfilling extravagant demands—including gold, cash, and a high-end BMW—the abuse continued unabated after marriage.
The bride’s father revealed that over ₹2.5 crore was spent on the wedding, hoping to ensure her happiness. However, shortly after moving into her marital home, she allegedly faced relentless pressure from her in-laws and husband for more money.
Authorities have launched an investigation and are examining the dowry harassment angle. An FIR has been filed against the husband and his family under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including the Dowry Prohibition Act.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage and renewed focus on the dangers of dowry culture, even among affluent families. Women’s rights groups have demanded swift justice and stronger enforcement of anti-dowry laws.
